How to preserve bread
Storage time of bakery products is 48–96 hours depending on their sort.
Freshness of bakery products can be maintained in several ways.
- Bread is cooling slower in a paper bag and its crust stays crispy.
- Bread is aging ‘chemically’ in a fridge. The crust absorbs water from the
content and will lose its brittleness; the content crumbles.
- Bread must be frozen within a short space of time. It is advisable to
freeze bread in slices.
- Frozen bread can be warmed in a microwave stove and such bread should be
consumed immediately because it becomes tough.
- Bread stays fresh in a plastic bag for 3–4 days.
- It is reasonable to buy white bread and graham bread for one day and keep
them in a paper bag or in a plastic bag.
- It is not advisable to keep rye bread and white bread in one place because
their smells do not fit in with each other.
- It is advisable to clean a breadbox or a bread case once a week. You must
be particularly careful in humid summer days.
