Rye bread has been a part of our culture and identity during several millenniums. A proverb also says ‘Honour bread – bread is older than us’. Estonians prefer slightly different tastes than their closest neighbours. Therefore Estonians abroad, besides feeling homesickness, often miss traditional Estonian rye bread.
